As much as people say that the U.S.' actions toward Iraq aren't about feeling a valid threat, I believe that much of the world's response to the U.S. has nothing to do with Iraq. Iraq could have glowing fucking nukes steeped in sarin gas and sprinkled with anthrax and much of the world community would still give Iraq a pass. The point would be to slap the U.S. down. The U.S. has been in power too long and without the USSR to balance the power, they have fear and envy. And they see that the U.S. is still reeling from 9/11 and they see an opportunity to weaken the U.S. or at least to band together and create a balance of power in their unity. And I say more power to them. Let Germany and France unite against the U.S. I am all for pulling every U.S. Military asset out of Europe and anyplace else where we are not welcome. I say that we should build up our defenses to make sure that there is no threat to the U.S. And when the Euros aren't looking because they are celebrating their victory over the U.S., the Chinese will see fruit that is easy for picking. And if it isn't the Chinese, how long will it take Germany to spawn another Hitler. Remember the economic conditions that allowed Hitler to survive. Anybody looked at the economy over there? Sorry folks, you don't build a strong economy on a mandatory paid 6 weeks off a year. You don't build a strong economy on socialistic tendencies. Hey, here's the chart for the DAX, they've got problems too.

I do think that you are right gloop. Bush is in a no win situation. His only hope is to do what he thinks is right. I would like that Bush pulls out the stops and shows all of the evidence that we have accumulated on Iraq. I think that the intent of Powell's presentation a couple of weeks ago was to give the UN just enough so that they could use the info and start digging deeper if they wanted to. And that's a key point, I don't believe that the UN wants to find anything in Iraq, so they won't. And when they do, they will dismiss it.
