I agree that they are in material breach; however I don't believe the breaches to date justify going to war. A breach has to materially the well being of this country for me to think war is justified.... a nuclear warhead mounted on a long distance missile is one example. Thanks much clearer. However, if you agree that Iraq has not willingly given up their WMD's nor disclosure of their plans to build more, why do you have to see a nuclear warhead mounted on a long distance missile? Because I don't believe at this point that Iraq is sitting on a whole bunch of WMD for two reasons: as of 1998, the weapon inspectors said they had destroyed 98% of Iraq's WMD. Secondly, Iraq's purchases of WMD has been limited by the food for oil program and by economic sanctions. This is not rocket science and I think Bush has come to the same conclusions. However, I think the people who motivate Bush believe that his father should have kicked Saddam out ten years ago and now they want Bush Jr. to do the job. Do you think Iraq would show us that prior to the time they could actually blackmail us with it? No, I see the UN inspectors' job to be ongoing til Saddam dies. My point is, you agree they're in material breach. That means you understand they not only have WMDs, they are intentionally hiding them, and given that fact, they are likely continuing to develop them. Yeah, I think there is some going on....he is an asshole after all but I don't believe its as much as some would have us believe. These materials, chemicals and components cost money.....where do you think he's getting the money to make the necessary purchases? Doesn't this concern you, even a little? Did you hear Tariq Aziz today in Italy? When asked questions by reporters of various nations he answered as best he could. But when asked a Q by an Israeli reporter he refused to answer an Israeli question. I am more concerned with al Qaeda. Do you truly know what a religious ideologue is? Have you seen them in operation? Not that this is an issue of protecting Israel, but is it so hard to make the leap that Iraq would use WMD against Israel without a second thought? Israel is the most powerful and best armed nation in the ME.....they can take care of themselves. By the way, containment isn't an option. I heard someone talking about all of the smuggling going on over both the Jordan border and the Turkey border. I'm sure most of it has to do with oil-food etc, etc, but how hard would it be to send a few vials of [insert bio WMD here] across the border? Again, it costs big money.......where is he getting it from? That doesn't concern you? You don't think Iraq wouldn't jump at the chance to watch us get hammered, regardless of who actually delivers the hammer? Do you understand the difference between a local would be mafia type and an international arms racketeer? Well, Saddam is the former; OBL the latter. I guess it just goes to a fundamentally different philosophy. I am conservative, hence, I err on the conservative side of preserving our security. I guess it is the engineer in me (factor of safety can't be high enough!). <g> I know you will laugh but in many ways I am conservative too. Often times I get along best with engineer types who aren't too hard core conservative. <g> The relatively small differences between us compliment each other. ted
