Role profile: Patrick Seale

<<The Journal of Palestine Studies identifies Patrick Seale as a leading
British writer on the Middle East, is the author of many books,
including The Struggle for Syria,
Asad of Syria: The Struggle for the Middle East, and Abu Nidal: A Gun
for Hire. Recently, he helped HRH Prince Khaled
bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz write Desert Warrior, his memoir of the Gulf
War.

Patrick Seale is considered one of the most in-depth British
journalists in the Middle East. He is the former correspondent of the
London newspaper “The observer”, through the thirty years of his career
he was able to study the Middle East closely and interview its most
prominent leaders. He is married to Rana Qabbani, a Syrian woman, Seale
among his other writings is mostly known for his controversial book
“Assad of Syria: The Struggle for the Middle East” which is a biography
the Syrian president Hafiz al Assad, Seale sheds light on the life of
Assad and his climb to power and his taking of the realm in 1970, and
how Assad was able to enforce his own ideas of al Ba ath even if it
meant destroying a town. Hama was a town (The Muslim Brotherhood) that
stood up to Assad in the early eighties, Assad took sever measures to
suppress this uprising and sent his air force to wipe the town clean.
His re-writing of Syrian history and its implications on the surrounding
countries reflect the Syrian foreign and domestic policies.
His book Abu Nidal: A Gun for Hire, deals with the notorious Palestinian
“terrorist or rebel” Abu Nidal in which Seale studies the Ideology of
this mysterious man and his organizations which has claimed
responsibility for many terrorist acts in the eighties..

Seale is one of the Journalists, which had tremendous effect on the
region with his writings, which reflect the swamp which the foreign
powers have created and which the Arabs are trying to clean up. Patrick
Seale is one of the few Orient lists, who’s
writings demonstrate a good understanding of the Arab mind and how it
works...>>
