The Turks wouldn't be so stupid. They know perfectly well that the French, who just stiffed them on applying to the EU, are going to be conveniently elsewhere when it comes time for the Turks to face the wrath of the US. In such an unlikely event, we might change our mind about supporting an independent Kurdistan. Kirkuk? all yours, guys.

This would play very well to the home crowd in Turkey.

Yeah, but it ignores a few things.

1) We can take Iraq without the Turks. The Kurds already own the northern area, and we can help them control it with Air only if we have to. Liberating Iraq will still be no problem.

2) When Turkey sticks it's head up and looks around, it only has one friend in the World. Us.

3) Bush is going in no matter what. That is a given.
