I understand your point re popularity of the book and that it sold a lot in France.

"Most French people" did not buy it, though, and even among those, you might find it difficult to argue that all who read it believed it.

I read all Erich Von Daniken books about aliens who built the pyramids etc (when I was a teenager) but never believed a word of it.

Anyway, I will stop playing the devil's advocate here, and accept the French did show a lot of unnecessary attention to the conspiracy theory book about 9/11 and Pentagon events. OK? :-)
