The weapon inspectors' have complained repeatedly that Iraq has insisted that the interviews be taped and/or chaperoned. Neither arrangement is acceptable to the inspectors. This AM Blix said that Iraq is in non compliance on this issue but now has agreed to allow interviews with neither tape recorder or chaperones.

Saddam's normal pattern. Throw up a roadblock, then appear to make a concession on it but really keep the road block in place, then if pressed hard enough get rid of that road block but throw up another one somewhere else, perhaps followed by a return to the inital road block at a later date.

Yeah, I know. We have to keep hounding him; there will be a point where he gives up.

But really I think this whole issue is moot. Bush is going in with or without the UN. The UN was Powell's baby, and he didn't bring her home.

This is ridiculous. It isn't as though these people are going to be candid under these circumstances. Saddam knows it, Blix knows, and the UN knows it.

These people and their entire extended families' mandatory removal from Iraq accompanied by an offer of protection until they depart and political asylum after they depart. That is the only way you can reasonably expect to get full cooperation.
