Actually it is the Kurds who are closer to al-Qaeda than the rest of Iraq or Saddam Hussein are. Once Iraq is "liberated", these Kurds will assert themselves and clash with the Shia's of Iraq. Not only that, the Turkish Kurds would want to break away from Turkey and form their own "Kurdistan" homeland.

It is gonna be one hell of a mess. And to think that some of our friends here have deluded themselves that, once Iraq is occupied, oil will gush out of the region and fix the problems plaguing our economy... sheesh!

Saddam is the central player in the instability of the region, and once he is gone, we can work to deal with the lesser factions. Until these things are achieved, this country is in great danger.
