I think the downside is the Star Wars assets designed to look for such stuff never got deployed. Under Reagan, optical technology and imaging in particular was developed to a fair-thee-well.

OT: Speaking of which, has anyone heard of what happened to the Boeing Lockheed project to put a missile-tracker-killer laser in a 747? That would be perfect for N Korea situation. They only have a few to try to launch on US or Japan. That plane could probably hold the lid on, while cruise missiles took care of the launch pads. I don't think they have mobile missiles with any significant range.

Of course, Seoul will get hammered with long range guns and short range rockets which the NKs have buried in the mountains...maybe germs and gas too.

Now you know why NK and Iraq are treated different. We are way too late in NK.
