This is a great series of questions. Let us suppose Bush did nothing against Iraq, allowing Iraq to develop apocalyptic weapons which it then sells to stateless terrorists. And let us suppose the terrorists use these weapons to punish, maim, murder and threaten the west.

Would Bush's opponents think Bush failed or would they not blame him for anything? What would they do?

We know they would never miss the opportunity to blame Bush for utterly failing the west. And they would be exactly correct in blaming him.

That is why Bush is going into Iraq. In a world of terrorists and WMD, he simply has no choice.

Everyone tends to estimate the cost of ACTION, but what of the cost of INACTION? What did the WTC bombing cost this Nation so far? TRILLIONS? What would the cost be if Saddam supplied WMD to terrorists who utilized them in the USA? Terrorist made munitions is one thing, Weapons Grade munitions is quite another. We could lose 10's of thousands of people, then what? Benjamin Franklin said it like this: An OUNCE of prevention is worth a POUND of cure. JDN

If the only source of potential weapons for al Qaeda is Saddam, then I would see the logic of your argument. However, there are at least ten sources for the kinds of weapons you fear.......probably many more. Therefore, what have you solved by taking out Saddam?!

In fact, you will have accomplished nothing; if Saddam is a source of weapons to al Qaeda, and there is no proof of that allegation, then a new source will be found.

At the same time, the attack on Iraq will engender a huge wave of anti Americanism and will make it open season on every American and American interest in the world. This level of hate for the US will last a long time. Never have I seen the US suggest squandering so much potential for so little gain.

I think we need to rethink what we want from our national leaders and what we want them to accomplish.......I don't the current crop is maximazing our assets to our best advantage. IMO neither the Dems nor the GOP are forging the kind of gov't that will insure us growth and well being in the future.
