Haim, the restraint shown by th US in the first Gulf War may well have convinced the USSR and its peoples that the USA is completely honest, and may thereby have hastened the collapse of the Soviet Union.

There are two disturbing things about the present situation:

1. It is hard not see an oil/war connection.

2. It is hard not see the US being gathered into an Israeli/Arab conflict.

Iraq is at this point getting close to being an occupied country already. I hope that the UN will succeed in overruling Bush and continuing to press for a peaceful acceptance by Iraq of more and more intrusive inspections of whatever is going on there.
