I am extremely frustrated by the willingness of people to prefer war over peace

imo the reason for this is simple: too few remember bodybags coming home. it has been so long since vietnam - and the US has waged "war" against "opponents" so feeble - that very few people understand just what it means to be at war.

i don't know if iraq will be the disaster that (re)teaches the virtue of humility but that lesson is waiting out there for us. it is a given at some point a whole lot of american men and women will die for something as pathetically useless as vietnam.

the current situation is beyond disturbing. you could take headlines from 1980, replace "USSR" with "USA", and reuse them. apparently nobody recalls the soviets also claimed terrorism and "security" as their rationale for going into afghanistan.

and how did we react? how did the rest of the world react?

and now we're surprised when the rest of the world is reacting that way towards us?

an administration that has resorted to "cleaning" the news and outright lies to build its case is an administration that has no case.

you do not need lies if the truth is on your side.
