Nobody could do this much damage to the economy and world stature of America Well, you got that right: Economy - we just went through a bubble of HUGE proportions. Historically it takes many many years to work through the aftereffects - just ask the Japanese, or your great grandparents. In fact, by comparison we've done admirably. (Note that I give Bush only a little credit for this, since I think it was at least as much the smarts of the Fed). World Stature - Lets see, Sept 11th? and the demonstrations of happiness in the Arab world afterward? The French - they dislike everyone, but most especially anyone more powerful than themselves. Heck they withdrew from NATO a long long time ago and then just let others protect them. They sold a nuclear power plant to the dictator of the country with one of the three or four biggest oil supplies in the world. (Golly, what could that be for?) We are the biggest kid on the block and people have a desire to want to blame someone - so guess who gets blamed. This does not relieve us of our responsibility to behave well, but inevitably we are going to be disliked. It has been true continuously for 50 years or more and stepping softly will not fix that, just get us stepped on. Clark
