And where on Earth would Saddam go with these weapons of mass destruction he probably does not have? When he tried to conquer Iran he failed, even with our help (one can pause to wonder what harm he would have wreaked in Iran IF he had won- would the pro-war people happily shoulder the blame for the genocide that undoubtedly would have happened in Iran if he could have won the war? I'm guessing not.)

When Saddam invaded Kuwait, after getting rather strange mixed signals from us, we went over with our world allies and thumped him. The first tiny country (which we did not want him to have), and thump thump thump. (Oh yeah, that's appeasement)

If we really had cared about the Kurds, and their extermination, we should have started YEARS ago to get the man tried for crimes against humanity. Of course when he started exterminating the Kurds he was our "Ally"- that probably made it a little tricky.

This isn't about Saddam and his aggression toward other countries in the region- because we FOSTERED that. We armed the man and sent him money to help him with wars of aggression. This isn't about the extermination of the Kurds, because he has been doing that a long time- and he probably even used some of the money we gave him to further their extermination. This isn't about weapons of mass destruction, because he had those when he used them on Iran (when we were supporting him), and he had them when he used the on the Kurds. SO, what is it about? I'm not enough of a conspiracy theorist to believe it's about oil. I always believe people are much too stupid to really get together on a conspiracy that will work.

I think this whole mess is the product of a series of really bad decisions, made on the basis of poor information, and a complete lack of foresight. Nothing more.

Iraq kicked them out.

If you tell your children that they may continue to live in your home but they must sleep in the garage, may only eat out of the garbage cans, and must listen to music of your choice blasted at them 24/7, and they leave, you may try to take the moral high ground of saying that you didn't kick them out, they chose to leave.

I will say you kicked them out.

As Saddam kicked out the UN inspectors.

Okay, answer this. If Saddam had fully and completel complied with all UN resolutions and all UN inspectors since 1991, and had openly proved to the world without any shadow of doubt that he had no WMD at all and no programs to produce them, do you honestly believe Bush would be threatening war now?

i didn't think so.

Iraq has defied what you call "civilized law" in defying over a period of years the demands of the UN. Iraq can't now try to hide behind the shield of "civilized law."
