Don - Well after 9/11 there was an outpouring world-wide of pro- Americanism, what happened to it in such a short time? Must have been those "soft" steps we have been taking.

Did I say we were taking soft steps? No. As for the 'world outpouring', that was hardly 'pro-American'. More like sympathy pasted over the top of misplaced but essentially inevitable hatred/envy. Pro-X is when you do something positive for X, not just when you coo over X. For instance, the French wanted nothing to do with Afghanistan until the fighting was essentially over.

None of this is to say that we haven't made some giant mis-steps over the last century - intervening in democratic processes in other countries being the most heinous - but show me another country that would do better. Absolutely certain that it ain't France - the terrorist supporting, arms dealing, ... .
