I don't think so, since the French do not believe anything Powell says, anyway, so why give Saddam a taste of what we may know? He would use the information to make whatever is being said by the defector irrelevant. Plus, I'm sure this presumptive defector's bona fides are being quite thoroughly checked.

I disagree. The French know that what they are saying publicly is wrong, they don't need any more evidence. Their objections aren't material, they are political.

At some point Powell might need to put them in a box but he can never convince them - they are already convinced. They just see an opportunity for political gain.
