Actually, I think he got the idea while working at the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley.

I think if you've been to more than a couple science museums that you've probably seen the microscopes--they are easy to use since they have 2 big eye thingies to look into and are hard to destroy...he sells them to schools, too, I think. He subcontracts most of the part making and then puts them together in his house. Customers assume he's a big corporation, but he just works out of his house.

Last time I saw him he told me to call him if we have any ant infestations-- he uses dead ants on his business cards. Says people really want them when he attends trade shows.

Interesting guy-- he appeared a couple times on Letterman's old show doing Mr. Wizard-like tricks when Letterman came on after Carson. Cuts his own hair, too...
