There's been an odd rhetorical turn in the past week or so, from the administration's long standing unilateralist "we're going in, regardless" line to "The UN and NATO are dead if they don't fall in line behind us". I assume there must be some Roveian poll following behind that all or something, it doesn't make all that much sense otherwise.

I'm not a big fan of the op-ed genre in general, of course. Friedman's usually a good solid cut above the pack there, but he's got the same 2-3 column a week grind, he can be forgiven dropping to the rant level from time to time. Most of the op-ed legions are stuck at that level permanently. Friedman has this other problem of being visible enough to be almost a player on the diplomatic stage, as in the abortive Saudi Palestinian initiative. No danger of something like that coming out of today's column, though.
