don't think that we should steal it, but we should make sure that we do well enough in the deal so that we both can largely recoup the costs of liberating the Iraqis

This isn't going to happen. At best, we can expect a fair shot at bidding on contracts, and perhaps benefitting from the market consequences of oil price stability.

I've heard several Republicans presented with the notion that we should benefit in this way, and they expressed outrage at the thought of it. I feel certain the administration will take the same position. I agree; there cannot be a hint of financial gain or reimbursement involved or we totally lose credibility.

The rest of the world has made up its mind. They hate us already.

I think the protestors we saw yesterday were an outgrowth of a deliberate attempt on the parts of the anti-war, anti-American crowds to organize. NYC turned out a million people to see Simon & Garfunkel in the park; if they can't get more than 100K in an anti-American, anti-Bush rally, it doesn't concern me too much.

There are some people we are never going to please. So be it.

No it wouldn't. The rest of the world has made up its mind. They hate us already. We just have to make the best of it. I'm just a big fan of transparency. That's the businessman side of me.

Transparency doesn't always work well in international diplomacy. The mind of the businessman can be made to look very evil. ;~))
