I agree completely.

I wish we had a better discussion of the risks.

I think there is a sense of certainty that the Arab world will cheer once Saddam is toppled. The belief, I believe, is that they are afraid to say anything now, because there is great fear of him and the US has in the past not stopped him when they had the chance, so there's no confidence that they will act this time, and if the US heeds world opinion and pulls back and doesn't start the war by mid-March, which means we can't start it until September of so, there's a fear it will never happen, and any country that publicly comes out on the US side will be in deep doo-doo with the Arab world. I think those in Washington really believe this scenario, that by acting we'll become heros in the Arab world.

I wish I had more confidence in that myself.

But I do think the risk of inaction is still very high.

Personally, as I've said earlier, I would pull every US soldier out of every foreign country and let the world deal with Saddam, or not deal with, as they will. Defend our borders, set up an effective SDI, and to we're okay, you're on your own.

But barring that, if we are going to use our force to protect the innocent and punish the guilty outside our borders, we have to do it right.
