>The call of the conservative illusion has a certain allure for the American public but when illusion becomes reality, Americans tend to awaken as if from a bad dream.

I'm not so sure about that... I think a major schism may form... see the article I'm posting at the end of this post.

There may be a major schism forming; it would not surprise me. Bush is the complete antithesis of the "great unifier"; great splinters have crackled from the White House since he took office. However, the article below misses an important point. When is a conservative not a conservative?

The author claims Orange Cty, CA for the confederacy. If a confederate were to make his way to OC, he would be in for a shock. Liberal Los Angeles had a Rep. mayor for 8 years. CA conservatives, in my mind, practice conservatism as it should be practiced......a tight reign over fiscal expenditures and gov't expansion.

In the South, conservatism is heavily intertwined with the S. Baptist church........and it becomes an intense morality play. That's what makes American conservatism so dangerous.......its religious roots.

Democracy travels best with liberalism, not conservatism.

Depends on your definition of "liberalism". John Kerry's a liberal here, but throw him in France and he sure ain't.

Everything in moderation, my man...

Let's try to stick to the American definitions of liberalism and conservatism.......no sense getting everyone all stirred up talking about Europe. ;`))
