sa,
You wrote: "Unilateral US military action posses a grave danger of alienating millions of centrist Muslims who will cross over to fervent anti-Americanism". They're already there. Make no mistake about this situation in the long run. It is about our survival as a country somewhat similar to what we have now. Sure we're corrupt too, but don't you really see a significant difference between our own corruption or let's use a stronger word, tyranny and the corruption and tyranny the likes of Saddam. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely but my point is some of the staunchest antiwar critics of our own government would be the least tolerant of dissenting points of view if they would ever succeed to power. Repression is not the monopoly of the right or the left but of rulers in absolute control. More to your question the majority of the muslim world is already lost. The only thing they respect is the barrel of a gun. Hopefully we can do some bridge building for the muslim people once they get a taste of true freedom. That is another chore but we can't just wait until further terrorist acts occur. They will in any event. Our only hope is to lessen their occurrence and sadly a loss of american civil liberties will occur. But if you think that is bad.....think of the alternative.
