>>They know how to tread women perfectly,....

Tread? As in "walk on"? They must have extraordinary balance as well.

>>75% of their electrical energy is being produced in nuclear reactors (well thats a thing I really don't like).

Amazing. That is the one and only thing about France that I do admire!

You hit an important point, Midland: culture is important to the French. I think a lot of the current anti-Americanism in France is based on culture resentments. It used to be that French culture was admired the world over. People in other countries studied French as a second language, and it was the language of diplomacy and commerce. Now they study English. Other countries would go to a French restaurant for a good time; now they hit Taco Bell or some other American-patterned franchise. They watch American TV and movies, listen to American self-help gurus instead of French philosophers and poets... the list goes on.

Could this refusal to cooperate in the war on terrorism be just an expression of envy?

The huge irony here is that the French - and most Europeans - really couldn't care less what Americans think about them. They don't go through life shouting "We're #1" like demented high school cheerleaders or squealing like stuck pigs when someone doesn't agree with them.

If most Europeans knew this thread even existed, they would chuckle and just get on with their usual lives. Pas de grande chose.....
