it is fairly irrevocable in a trading account. I keep two accounts, one for longer-term "investments" and one for trading. My golds, for example, are in my investment account. That way I can get long-term tax treatment.

that's not to say I don't put trades on in my investment account, but they aren't day trades. I also hold stuff in my trading account, I just know that is marked to market.
