This sounds like what has been predicted by many who are NOT comfortable with the administration view on war. The Iraqis are not preparing for formal war, but will place their soldiers with households throughout the country and commence a war of attrition without formal battle.

This is similar to what the Russians did to the Germans around Stalingrad, resulting in the loss of more than 200,000 Germans (and millions of Russians) before the Germans called it quits. The Russians were helped by extreme cold that left the Germans unprepared in terms of food as well as ability to make their trucks and tanks operate in that amount of cold. The Iraqis will be helped by extreme heat that will force the Americans to go without their armor plating vests (heavy and hot) and make them vulnerable to sniper attacks. Unlike the Germans, the Americans will probably win, but no one in the administration has even attempted to deal with the long term consequences, much less let on to the public what could happen.
