In the South, conservatism is heavily intertwined with the S. Baptist church........and it becomes an intense morality play. That's what makes American conservatism so dangerous.......its religious roots. In our opinion... but hell, if I believed in God, I'd try to follow his word as closely as possible, and try to spread it, if I believed that's what he wanted... if I believed abortion equivalent to murder, I'd be bombing abortion clinics myself. Fortunately, I don't believe that, and, IMO, neither should anyone else. They are not necessarily following God's word but doing some heavy interpretation that fits their already established moral beliefs independent of God's words. There was a guy when I went to school who was a S. Baptist. He talked and acted like a 60 year old man. <g> In any case, he would go on and on about this event that could happen any time soon......I can't remember what its called but all the good Christians will be raised to heaven at one time. Not Muslims, not Jews, not Hindus, not atheists, not agnostics, not lapsed Christians....only the faithful Christians. All I could picture was driverless cars running amok on the freeways; pilotless planes crashing to the ground; presumably an empty White House if it were to happen today. That's one way to get rid of ole Bush. ;~)) Well, I was raised Christian.....maybe I didn't get all the nuances down pat but I was never taught of such an important event where you ramp up to heaven all together. I would have been a much better Christian had I known. <g> ted
