>You make the solutions so black or white......either we take him out or we ignore him. I think there is a third alternative which is to contain him. Even with a lapse of inspections but with sanctions still in place, its not looking like Saddam has amassed a huge cache of WMD. In a short time, I think we will know if this is right.

Will the inspectors keep Saddam from executing horrible human rights abuses? Will the inspectors keep Saddam from funding suicide bombers?

Call me self-righteous, but the human rights record of his regime is more of a concern to me than WMD.

>Frankly, I think foreign gov'ts have been more effective in tracking down al Qaeda than we have. The gov't has estimated that there are at least 300 sleepers in this country [others say there are more than that] and the last time we picked up anyone was sometime last year.....the guys in Buffalo, NY. I don't see the effort being made to corral al Qaeda.

Some would argue that our we've gone overboard in that effort... Ashcroft's views on civil liberties are called into question every day. Look at the immigration debacle in LA last month.

How do you propose we do this? They are called sleepers for a reason. Unless you start having neighbors reporting "suspicious" people because they are muslim etc. you are left with doing some hard research that takes a lot of time, and may produce little. It would not take much of a push before the left went nuts about civil liberties and profiling.

You reap what you sew, and we are now sewing the crop of letting anybody into the country. It will be difficult to reverse that particular problem, but hopefully we can stop it from getting worse.
