Juergen, America is deeply divided on the Iraqi issue, and this is very "normal" for America. Yes, President Bush has the majority, but not a huge one. Americans, I think, would be more uncomfortable with political consensus, rather than with controversy.

As for the US troops in Europe - I am not certain why there should be so many in any case. There is no longer any threat from what used to be USSR - this became clear many years ago, ever since they allowed taking down the Wall and the re-unification.

Welcome back, BTW! Have been missing your updates... -g.

Juergen, you asked:

But do you think that running behind Bush and shouting "Heil" is a good thing?

No I certainly don't!

I can't speak for others who favor war with Saddam, but my position has nothing to do with blindly following Bush (or anyone for that matter).

I don't have the time to explain my position in detail right now, so I'll just say that I think it is our moral duty to remove Saddam from power.

"But do you think that running behind Bush and shouting "Heil" is a good thing?"

70 years ago, Germans thought it was a "good thing", and 6+ million Jews lost their lives, along with others that finally overthrew that good thing.

Since you don't want us, maybe France can help protect you from the next invader. Oops, I forgot, they can't even protect France.

I think that the dangers of attacking Iraq are possibly new terrorist attacks. However, these attacks are not likely to be with WMDs. If we don't do anything, eventually there will be terrorist attacks - that time with WMDs. Also, it is not clear that not attacking Iraq will prevent the terrorist attacks in the short run.

The idea of comparing this with Vietnam doesn't hold water. VietCong was being actively supported by a big superpower at the time. There will be NOBODY supporting Iraq. Even the Arabs don't like him.
