He outlined his approach (large format + Saphion) in August 2001 conference call, I recall. He did not place his priority on licensing or cobalt/manganese technology batteries.

We are seeing his execution of the plan, namely, large format product based on VLNC PO4 patents.

Small format products (PDA etc.) have already been "farmed-out" to manufacturing by licensees.

I assume that the large format product will command a higher margin (materials + engineering) than a notebook battery. They can optimize the NI plant for manufacturing specific large format products by the end of this year, (Feb 17 news release: Commercial availability of Pure Po4wer packs by the end of 2003.)

I'll not be surprised if VLNC announces the second generation Saphion product (and/or cylindrical version) at the next Demo 2004. jmo Ram
