Iraq Reports U.S. Spy Plane Flight
abcnews.go.com

BAGHDAD, Iraq Feb. 17 — Iraq reported the first flight by an American U-2 surveillance plane Monday in support of the U.N. inspection mission, marking another concession by the Baghdad government in hopes of staving off a U.S.-led attack.

"At 11:55 a.m., a U-2 surveillance plane entered Iraqi airspace and reconnoitered several areas of Iraq and left Iraqi airspace at 4:15 p.m.," the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "The reconnaissance operation lasted four hours and 20 minutes." [.....]

Hmmm, the French aircraft carrier is returning...perhaps Part II of the Pastry War of 1839 with Mexico is in the offing.

The French Embassy claimed that peasants destroyed hundreds of thousands of pesos in pastries. Naturally the Méxican government was opposed to pay these claims: this incident was called "La Guerra de los Pasteles" (The War of the Pastries). This incident like many others was provocative.

Perhaps the French want another crack at the rag-tag Mexican army that delivered serious pain to them in Puebla on 5 May 1862.

Let me venture the FR2 TV evening title... "Charles de Gaulle victoriously returns home after successfully completing its mission."
