I am damn sick of the excuses that the GOP public makes for the current administration

You, who lives by polls alone, surely can't doubt that most people think the administration has done an excellent job of dealing with Al Qaeda since 9/11.

What really burns my butt is that I listen to some of the regulars on this thread complain ad infinitum about the Dems but rarely if anything is said about the lack of action being seen on this front by the current administration.

I don't mind saying it. The Bush administration goofed by not paying enough attention to terrorist threats from the outset. It was a mistake, and Bush has recognized this publicly. It doesn't rate with the bungles of the previous administration is refusing to accept bin Laden when he was offered on a silver platter, or allowing Iraq to deny access to the weapons inspectors. But nonetheless, the Bush administration made a mistake.

By the way, Bush publicly admitted his administration made this mistake. Clinton still denies BOTH of the above-cited mistakes. The buck never stops with Clinton.

And if that weren't enough, two weeks to one month before 9/11 the Germans warned us that something big was happening and it would involve hijacking planes.......nothing was done. They also gave us the names of specific people.....again nada was done. And then there was the well seasoned FBI agent in MPLS who warned that something was up, that suspicious foreign nationals were getting their pilot's licenses. She too had names and she too was ignored.

Well, this kind of thing led to the biggest re-org of the government in a long time, but it is completely irrelevant to what I was talking about.

And now its two years later and we are back to the same garbage. Now we are supposed to believe that out of 300+ sleepers not one of them is in violation of their visas or broken the speed limit or violated a gun law or has not filed their income taxes or has not behaved suspiciously or done anything that warrants bringing them in for questioning?

So you're under the impression that we know who these 300 sleepers are, and we're just waiting for some legal basis to talk to them? If that's the case, then the whole war on terror at home will be a piece of cake! I doubt that is the case though.

And frankly, to blame this lack of activity on the left is baloney since the left has been relatively quiet on those rare times when someone has been taken into custody.

I'm not even claiming there is a lack of activity. YOU are. I'm just saying that we are most likely doing all we can, and going any farther would be going down the profiling road which would get the left antsy.

You sure had to wait for the results under Clinton (embassy bombings, WTC bombing 1, USS Cole...all no real response), so I guess you used up all of your patience.

Plus when the administration screws up....like in the current foreign diplomacy disaster, these same people get very quiet.

There is obviously a difference of opinion here. I think the current admin is doing a great job with foreign policy. A stand needs to be made, and I'm proud that Bush has the rocks to do it.

Brian

I am damn sick of the excuses that the GOP public makes for the current administration. Subsequent to 9/11, its been shown that several of the involved sleepers were in violation of one law or another and could have been picked up legally, and such action, maybe, might have averted the whole 9/11 disaster. No one says anything, of course, about this failure to perform because it has become a national virtue to not fault or criticize anyone about how 9/11 was handled.

I totally agree with you. Within 8 months of inauguration, Bush should have come in, cleaned house at both the CIA and FBI, captured Bin Laden, pretty much handled all the stuff Clinton left behind.

Do you know how ridiculous you sound?
