I have been unsupportive of our policy in Iraq for several years. The reason has been that we were targeting innocent civilians to die as a result of our economic sanctions. The original premise was two fold. 1) Saddam would not let millions die of treatable medical illnesses or starvation and 2)Those who are suffering would rise up and oust the despot. Neither outcome came to fruition. But even if it did the premise was faulty. Never, never target innocents to get at your enemy in war. Some minor noise was picking up in the last couple of years but the Global powers and mass media never got to excited about it.

Now it is clearly the reverse Saddam is the target not the innocent civilians. There is every opportunity for anyone not wanting to harbor Saddam to stand in the clear. If they do we will probably see a quick and possibly (long shot) bloodless surrender. Far far less death than we saw when merely imposing economic sanctions and the outcome (death or not) is entirely a decision our enemy has control over.

Now I see the world powers and mass media up in arms. topsy turvy
