Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. (Romans 13:3-4) Your view of Christ (and that of your priest) is myopic, and thus utterly truncated. Christ is not merely a God of the soft touch, but also a God of wrath; and He puts in place government authorities who are agents of His wrath upon those who threaten civil order. I do not take it upon myself as a Christian to choose war and then wage it. I have no authority for such a thing. I take it upon myself as a citizen of the state to encourage the state to do its God-given duty to maintain civil order against those who would destroy it.
