Dave, A lot depends on personal preferences. Most of the time we have mild winters with little snow staying on the ground.
Now we have 6 weeks of accumulated ice/snow. Not much on the ground though since we had little fal. very cold air holds little moisture, so we got a few flurries since December.
It will thaw this weekend and we will have a mild 30 days or so.
Just south of us we have Buffalo NY, they had 76 inches in one snowfall last winter due to a very warm winter that left Lake Eric unfrozen, so a cold nothern wind piled lake effect snow up, 76 inches deel in 1.5 days.

This year Lake Eris frozen, no lake effect snow from it.

By comparison Toronto gets little snow. City effect make us 5-10 degrees warmer than the local countryside
