We are a preposterously conceited self satisfied country - We are the real people. They are the other. Thousands of years of DNA makes indelible imprints. Like most every other tribe or nation state ever to exist we are just crazy monkeys. The brain case is big enough to encompass everything - love, trust, human kindness, leaps of faith - but Medulla Oblongata, Fornix, Colliculi, & Co. are strictly old school, sending powerful messages -- not only can we kill, we can do so with impunity - and many of the species grow to like it. The saddest part, in my view, is that religion may have originally been inspired by noble efforts to address this, among other, aspects of our fragile psyches. But since that time how many will glady kill or be killed in the name of Allah, or Jesus, or whatever deity or dogma is being used to manipulate and exploit the latest version of cannon fodder? We need the most cunning of statesmen to do their jobs, to make their peace and to let us know that we are truly safe, and we need the holy men, the holy women, the holy children to help us remember that we all are blessed.
