The world’s two largest wafer foundries may experience tight capacity this quarter on rising orders, with demand for foundry business expected to rebound in the second quarter, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News reported, citing investment analyst sources.

Thanks to anticipated high-margin orders from major customer Nvidia, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is likely to see quarter-on-quarter revenue growth of more than 10% in the second and third quarters, predicted analysts from Salomon Smith Barney (SSB), Credit Lyonnais and other securities firms.

United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) reportedly expects to be extremely busy at some of its production lines in March, the report cited analysts as saying. Customers like Broadcom, Motorola and Qualcomm are expected to increase outsourcing to the two foundry giants, they indicated.
