Mature industry lays off workers for one week shutdown

Valentine's Day hits world's oldest profession

Prostitutes in Slovakia say they have been forced to reduce their prices after Valentine's Day saw a drop in business.

Local daily Narodna Obroda said many had reduced their prices by between 25 and 50%.

Ina, 19, who lives in Bratislava, said: "Business was very poor. One customer wanted an even bigger discount, so I went down to £5.

"Slovak men are either being incredibly faithful and are spending the nights with their girlfriends or wives, or they simply don't have any money left for a half hour of pleasure after buying expensive Valentine's gifts."

The newspaper said some prostitutes had taken a week off work until business picked up again.
