Jack says "OR you could form a group to tackle the problem" Raising taxes on any particular demographic is a failed premise, if you believe taxes are too high already, and that gov't expenditures are out of control. Have you looked at (a)what you really pay in taxes, and (b)what they go for? The GDP is 40% gov't. Now, is 40% of your life really dependent on gov't services? You are apparently taking the gov't POV, that more taxes will solve problems, and it's just a question of who can be made to pay. It's a practical question - how can gov't best preserve the "American Way of Life" as we each define it. Other than being a bellicose SOB internationally, TR about had it right, regulating clear business abuses, preserving the environment, maintaining an open gov't, and encouraging participation. If you are serious you should do what I and many others have done, run for office yourself or support anyone you can find who has their head screwed on straight. Without that community dialog, it ends up being the kind of gov't locally that we have in Washington, i.e., a pure tyranny of the insiders. You'll find your biggest obstacle is media control by incumbants, and the only answer is grass-roots organizing like Jarvis, Ventura and Paul Wellstone, door-to-door. I encourage you to consider that. In '91 I sold a major property to get involved in politics, and I'm glad I did. You're the kind of person I would contribute to, if it got more people involved. FWIW
