Should it be obvious why Q would not be targeting Asia with GSM1X?

In order to meet the terms of very expensive frequency licenses, carriers are committed to an initial superficial wCDMA build.

If I remember correctly, in order to avoid problems with the WTO, in Europe, only one carrier in each area had to go UMTS in the 3G spectrum. Others were allowed to choose from among the 5 flavors.

Imagine if one of the European carriers switched their technology choice to CDMA2000? They'd probably have to file for permission, but the very request would be like the kid who shouted at the king asking why he didn't have any clothes on.

If a consortium of carriers could work together to create a full coverage situation for Europe for CDMA2000, then everyone can have everything they want except the greedy EuroInfrastructure thugs who pushed the continent into this mess in the first place.

Full coverage would mean that any customer buying a phone would work anywhere in Europe, on either the old GSM which would be kept up for many years, or on the new CDMA2000 network. And during the buildout, dual mode phones would keep those who want to move to the new technology from suffering.
