energyplay,

I don't follow the FTSE that closely. I'd guess that they have the same sector problems as in the USA. I'd steer well clear of tech, especially telecommunications. I know that biotech in Great Britain is as speculative as it is in the USA. And they have had some problems in health care stocks as well as pharmaceuticals. Oh, and I've read about insurance woes as well. That's all off the top of my head.

On the flip side, banking might be worth a look-see. Manufacturing (non-tech) might also be worth researching. You might find a diamond-in-the-rough in retail as well.

Generally speaking though, as long as the US dollar continues to decline against other currencies, it makes for a much more difficult earnings environment for foreign companies to perform well, especially those companies with exposure to the US dollar.

Again, all in my opinion. The risks that used to be strictly in the USA are now somewhat global, and the rules of the ball game seem to be evolving rather than static. So, I'd be real careful on where to put money right now. My problem is that I seem to see extraordinary risks wherever I look these days... <g>
