NASHUA, NH -- (INTERNET WIRE) -- 02/19/2003 -- Chasma, Inc., a leading publisher of wireless games and entertainment software, today announced the titles of six games developed for QUALCOMM’s Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless™ (BREW) platform.

The slate of games includes Gem Jam, a challenging puzzle game; Atom Smash and Quicxo, two fun strategy games; an update of the popular American classic, Hangman; and two dynamic first-person racing games, All Terrain Madness and Jetski Challenge. Chasma plans to offer this first slate of applications to wireless operators around the world that support the BREW platform.

“Our game line up has something for everyone, and Chasma is proud to be launching them exclusively on the BREW platform,” said David Bell, chief executive officer, Chasma. “With the flexibility and intelligent implementation of the BREW platform, we have been able to create extraordinarily compelling games in an incredibly short amount of time.”

“Chasma has demonstrated commitment and dedication to creating a full repertoire of games and entertainment applications for the BREW platform,” said Mike Yuen, director of developer relations, QUALCOMM Internet Services. “Chasma’s catalogue of games will give BREW subscribers hours of fun and challenging adventures on their BREW-enabled handsets.”

Deployments of the BREW solution continue as operators throughout the world join Verizon Wireless and ALLTEL in the United States, KTF in South Korea, KDDI in Japan, and China Unicom in commercializing BREW-based services. Brasilcel, a joint venture between Spain’s Telefonica Moviles and Portugal Telecom, plans to roll out BREW services to subscribers in Latin America in March 2003 and U.S. Cellular has launched a BREW user trial. More than 40 BREW-enabled handset models are already available to consumers worldwide, and more than 40 device manufacturers have indicated their interest in the BREW platform.

QUALCOMM’s BREW platform is a thin application execution environment that provides an open, standard platform for wireless devices. The BREW platform is part of a complete, end-to-end solution for wireless applications development, device configuration, application distribution, and billing and payment. The complete BREW solution includes the BREW SDK™ (software development kit) for developers, the BREW applications platform and porting tools for device manufacturers, and the BREW Distribution System (BDS) that is controlled and managed by operators -- enabling them to easily get applications from developers to market and coordinate the billing and payment process. Operators’ BREW-based services will enable consumers to customize their handsets by downloading applications over the air from an operator’s application download server. The BREW platform is a product of QUALCOMM Internet Services (QIS), a division within the QUALCOMM Wireless & Internet (QWI) Group of QUALCOMM Incorporated.

Ben, thanks for Reuters article with the “interesting” Dr. I.J. quotes centering around the “world phone” and the MSM6300-

1. "Its going to take people by surprise"

2. “ Qualcomm had signed up two top-five mobile phone producers to bring out a world phone using a new Qualcomm chip"

3."phones using the chip would appear in the third quarter from the first manufacturer and at the start of 2004 from the second, but would no disclose any names".
