Hoo-law, practically a food fight on this thread, and after it had been sleepy for so long. Good, that indicates something's up, although I can't tell what it is. Bubblevision put something I wrote on it last night (no, don't bother going there to hear THAT, it wasn't even my best stuff); I only mention it in line with this post which acts as the official funeral ceremony for my 15 minutes of fame. Sic transit gloria kodiacii. As for terrorism here, there's little doubt in my mind that 9/11 (by that I mean something of that magnitude) will not happen again. 9/11 was the perfect confluence of American unpreparedness and stupidity; law enforcement had all the tools it needed to avert 9/11, it just lacked the consciousness to act proactively. Today (I'm postulating, but everybody's got an opinion, just like everybody's got an .....) FBI and CTU (whoops, was watching Fox last night) have neural networks which can uncover just slightly offbeat patterns in plane reservations, passenger last names, cancellations--all of which were absolutely clear pre 9/11 if SOMEBODY had bothered to turn the computers on. This is not to say terrorists won't be able to use bullets (after all, we have about 400 million rifles and pistols floating around this country, and ammunition for each and every one of them, in abundance) or something else, like a homemade car bomb, to hit government officials or terrorize McDonalds', but the Big Thing won't happen. Also, people have their antennae way up these days. Nobody is going to take over an airliner with a nail nipper and a little copper wire. Funny activity in a Jersey City mosque is going to have lots of attendance by the local police at future prayer meetings, and local muslims will be quicker to rat out (I think) militants who endanger not only their way of life here, but their lives here. Another couple of Islamic terrorist attacks on the home soil and I wouldn't want to be walking around in a djellabah or bowing to the east in a mosque 5 times a day. I'm not saying that should happen, but I think it will happen. JMHO, Kb
