Well there you go, you think you got what you paid for and that's all that matters.

A friend of mine hired landscapers to put in a number of flower beds and move a small tree. She had her own plant material, so all they did is cut sod, put in top soil and mulch the beds. She paid 6 grand. The landscape company brought a Bobcat, 4 Mexican laborers and ordered two truck loads of dirt and mulch. I figured their expense was less then $1500. I just wish for one minute I had those kind of margins in my own biz! I didn't have the heart to tell her since the money was gone.....she still thinks she got what she paid for because she couldn't face doing it herself. I think the landscaper even showed up after the job was done to see if all the subs he hired had done a good job.

Back when I was trying to get Comcast to install cable up to my house they offered to put it in for $800 because they charged by the foot. It needed to be buried so I thought it was a big deal. They finally agreed to do it for free. I got to talking to the guy who drove the modified Bobcat that laid the cable. He told me he was paid $30 for every installation no matter how long the driveway was. I was glad that they had offered to put in the cable for free. (this was offered AFTER I'd agreed to the $800 charge). It was then I realized between retail and wholesale there was a lot of room for negotiation when it comes to small bulldozers.
