"But, I also don't honor Bush. I think he has squandered the intense world-wide sympathy the U.S. had after 9/11. He's done it by unilateralism, an unwillingness to compromise, and choosing the wrong target in the War."

Jacob,
The target in the war is open to debate. The rest are straw men. Operative word for the world on 9/11 was and is sympathy--nothing more and nothing less. We could have kept the worlds sympathy by behaving like the French perhaps. We chose to get off the canvas and fight back. Europeans would not have done that. Again the prime target in the war is open to debate. I view it as one enemy being fought on many fronts. You dont and thats cool. But the sympathy BS--nope, dont buy it. mike

The unilateral charge is a joke. I now wish he had been unilateral. However, the structural issues at the UN and Nato needed to be exposed and I am glad he did. Compromise with what? What was the serious alternative tabled? The UNSC passed 1441 unanimously after seven weeks of hard negotiations. Unilateral my butt, France and Germany just don't want the ramifications to hit their countries. I have not seen a serious suggestion from them. This isn't a water treaty there working on where everybody gets to spit in the soup. This is war, and if they want to be heard they need to present serious and substantive alternatives. "Inspections are working" isn't serious.

Paul

He's "squandered it" by showing he really means to do something besides politely withdraw and humbly lick his wounds.
