Actually, I think were Saddam to be tried for war crimes the same percentage in the worldwide polls you're seeing opposing this war would approve of that.

Unfortunately, the Bush Administration hasn't hesitated a bit to throw every public relations tool in the book at making Saddam more of a threat than he is, more of a bogeyman than he actually is.

Why?

Because Bush has to sell this war to the American people and doing this serves as cover for the bad standing of the American economy and numerous corporate scandals some of which reach to the top of his Administration, including maybe even him (see Harken Energy deal). Not effectively selling this war to the American public means he'll likely face similar results to what Blair is experiencing, a very low public confidence level. So long as the nation is at war he won't be deposed for Harken. So there's motive as to why Bush is behaving the way he is. And his manner of behavior, on balance, defies logic.

The question I asked stands: Why hasn't the Bush Administration put a full court press on bringing Saddam up for war crimes? One would think that would have been a great table set for pushing his war. Perhaps he's worried about what Cheney has done, what he has done and what other members close to him have done, Secretary of the Army White, for example, a former Enron employee.

Regarding what Parenti wrote that you claim is a "lie." How and why?
