My defense of Barrick has been based on my judgement of the management, and some knowledge of the people involved. And also my judgement of the risks inherent in misjudgemt by Barrick not so much in the hedgebook, but the devastating effect of being found to have misled the investing public. (I't s bit like the illogic of the Bush crowd in accusing Sadaam of threatening his neighbours - who incidentally are universally unthreatened! - just imagine that Sadaam used so called WMD's against anyone - he'd be obliterated -so why would he ever contemplate it??), so why would Barrick risk a qualified audit report for example? You can bet your bottom dollar that the auditors and outside directors have done their homework and the latter will have taken independent advice on their risk exposure. Espacially after Enron - who Barrick detractors keep dragging in by innuendo.

Unlike you or me Russett has taken the time to analyse the matter in great detail. He's wiped the floor with all comers. If you want to take him on do so. In my judgement he's sound.

Barrick has been the subject of much envy - a by-product of it's leadership position IMO. IMO it will rise above the smear campaign - it sure has hurt the stock price

Looks like higher gold prices might revive another "dead" project (aka future production)

"Placer Dome Inc said on Thursday a key economic study of its large Getchell gold deposit (proven and probable mineral reserves of 2.7 million ounces) in Nevada had been completed and an operating plan for full-scale production would be presented within three months."

Two other projects:

"Placer committed to develop Donlin and exercised its option to become joint-venture manager of the project with Canadian small-cap exploration company Novagold Resources Inc"
AND
"feasibility study had been launched on the Pueblo Viejo gold project in the Dominican Republic"

Summary: "Pueblo Viejo, Donlin and Getchell together contain more then than 30 million ounces of resources."
