One theory I heard was the real reason it was dropped
was the Japanese were talking to the Soviets about surrendering. The US didn't want Japan in the hands
of the Soviets and also wanted the Soviets to be warned of our power.

More would have been killed had the bomb not been invented.
Probably over 1 million Japanese.
