THe dinner was great.The food was unusual and wonderful. HTey fed us so much we are all stuffed and won't eat for another day or so...I am totally stuffed. I didn't know if their culture got insulted if you eat small portions so I ate what they put on my plate............way too much food. The company was most interesting and we learned alot. The Jordanian couple was picked up a the airport today as they arrived back form Jordan. They were going to stay longer but their parents made them leave before hostilities broke out and they couldn't get out. The Jordanian woman was a MD and she went to Medical school in Iraq...........................we heard many stories. The people of Iraq don't like Saddam but they fear the bombing and war more than they fear Saddam.. they said that the people in the Middle East are all terribly on edge and scared of what to happen. They said that Kuwait City and Basra, Iraq are only about 45 miles apart. Baghdad to Kuwait City is about a 5 to 6 hour drive. The countries are quite close together so what happens in one country usually seeps into the others. Th Jordanians are all worried about refugees from Iraq. when the war starts they wil be pouring over the borders and will create a humanitarian crisis...........like before. ONe man told us that Arafat set up a casino in Jericho...only US citizens are allowed to go into it. He makes a ton of money there!!! He also said that the Jewish settlers ride through the mainroads with machineguns ripping out bullets at random. His father lives near their freeway and his windows are filled with bullet holes. These settlers are imported Jews from places like the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. Israeli's are paid to have babies...................maybe about 500 dollars a child with free heath care. Actually the American citizens pay cause it's our tax dollars that are used. One of the gals there was from Jerusalem.her father is apoliceman there. He makes 15 dollars a month!!!!!!! She is lucky to be here and is living quite nicely..................she's a lovely girl and her marriage was arranged. Their stories were numerous.
