China Unicom added a net 602,000 users to its code division multiple access, or CDMA, service in January over December. This compared with a 21% on-month growth in December.

I am sure Qualcomm is going to take a hit on the article but the numbers are actually a little bit better than I expected.

China Unicom added 770,000 new CDMA subs during the month. This is higher than the above reported number since it includes some newly acquired networks. They had about 84% of the CDMA subscribers at the beginning of the month. If that ratio held true, the overall CDMA net adds for the month were about 920,000 subs for the month.

A pretty good showing....

If they keep this level of subsidies, I would assume that sales should rebound when 1x/BREW handsets come out in the next couple of months.
