Derek, The Turkish military has long played the role of keeping Turkey secular to the consternation of Islamists and democratic true believers as well. This charade may cause the very intervention the new government does not want. EU and NATO have treated Turkey differently than other non-moslem european states. US has backed Turks in europe 100%. So perhaps we can soon add Turkey to the list that includes Germany, France, and South Korea--all nations the US saved and all nations apparently with very short memories. Hope not with Turkey. mike
