It is only natural for those some countries, especially those 3 in "Axis of Evil", to be defensive, to try their best to acquire nuclear weapons. Does not Iran just recently declared they are going to continue their development in nuclear programs? And it is hard to say whether the US and the International community can stop them. With all the modern technologies around, IMHO, I think it is next to impossible. Who knows, maybe the only way to control the nuclear weapons is to let everyone who wants it to have it??<ng>

It's ludicrous to suggest that Iraq, Iran and North Korea are arming themselves in response to a threat from the US. Like India, Pakistan and Isreal, those countries have regional concerns. It is a big step from having some nuclear weapons to having a ICBMs with nukes.

However, I do agree that the genie is out of the bottle and there is no practical way to stuff it back in. Thus th Bush doctrine of preemption. If you make the cost of arming high enough some countries may think twice. Of course, extra-nationals like AQ are harder to manage that way.
